Abstract: The prevalence of metabolic syndrome (MetS) in children and adolescents is increasing, which has been a serious risk to their current health and increased the risk of cardiovascular disease in adulthood. Sleep behaviors are important components of the body's metabolic regulation. There is growing evidence that sleep insufficiency, sleep disorders and circadian rhythm disturbances are associated with an increased risk of MetS in children and adolescents. This paper reviews the associations between sleep problems and MetS in children and adolescents and explores the underlying biological mechanisms, in order to provide a scientific basis for the implementation of public health interventions to reduce metabolic risk in children and adolescents.

Key words: sleep, metabolic syndrome, children, adolescents
