Abstract: Endoplasmic reticulum stress has drawn much attention recently because of its potential roles in the pathomechanism of atherosclerosis. This review focused on the role of endoplasmic reticulum stress played in the initiation and development of atherosclerosis involving inflammation production, lipid metabolism dysfunction and cell apoptosis.Further more, some independent risk factors, such as hyperhomocysteinemia and hyperglycemia also induce the atherosclerosis via endoplasmic reticulum stress.

Key words: atherosclerosis, endoplasmic reticulum stress, inflammation, hyperhomocysteinemia, hyperglycaemia
