Abstract: AIM: To investigate the efficacy of amlodipine,enalapril,and amlodipinePlus enalapril on elderlyPatients with hypertension.METHODS: 100 cases were randomly assigned to two groups:50 cases treated with 5 mg qd of amlodipine(amlodipine group),and another 50 cases treated with 10 mg qd enalapril of(enalapril group).After two weeks,the cases that bloodPressure was not decreased significantly were added enalapril 10 mg qd in amlodipine grouPand added amlodipine 5mg qd in enalapril grouPfor two weeks.RESULTS: After two weeks and four weeks,the total effective rates were 62% and 94%(P<0.01)in amlodipine group,respectively,and were 60% and 96%(P<0.01)in enalapril group.No difference showed in the two groups.No severe side effects were found.CONCLUSIONS: Amlodipine,enalapril,and amlodipinePlus enalapril can effectively decreased bloodPressure in the elderlyPatients with hypertension.
