Abstract: AIM: To investigate the association between ATP-binding cassette transporter A1 (ABCA1) gene single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) and lipid-lowering efficacy of atorvastatin. METHODS: 105 patients with hyperlipid were treated with atorvastatin 20 mg per night for one month enrolled in this study (follow-up data were available in 90). Genotype were determined using polymerase chain reaction-restriction fragment length polymorphism(PCR-RFLP). Serum total cholesterol (TC), triglyceride (TG), low density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C), high density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) levels were determined before and after the treatment of one month. RESULTS: No significant association was found between ABCA1 G2706A polymorphism and TC, TG, LDL-C, HDL-C changes. CONCLUSION: ABCA1 G2706A polymorphism may be not associated with atorvastatin efficacy.
