Abstract: ACh widely distributes in non-nervous tissues and cells. The organic cation transporters (OCTs) are involved in the transportation and release of ACh. Wide expressions of AChE in endothelium limit the effects of non-neuronal acetylcholine on the area of its synthesis and release and it makes the non-neuronal acetylcholine be a cytokine.Muscarinic and nicotinic receptors are widely expressed on endothelial cells in comparison with the distribution of non-neuronal acetylcholine.Nicotinic receptors are involved in the synthesis and release of several bioactivity molecules. The α7 subtype of nicotinic receptors participates in the angiogenesis.Non-neuronal acetylcholine induces the vascular relaxation with intact endothelium. The endothelial target for acetylcholine different from neuronal acetylcholine receptors plays an important role in vascular relaxation, and participates in the progress of atherosclerosis and thrombosis.
