Abstract: Carnosic acid (CA) is a natural phenolic diterpene compound found in rosemary (Rosmarinus officinalis) characterized as an ortho-dihydroquinone-type molecule.Multiple lines of studies have shown that CA has potent neuroprotective effects in vitro and in vivo in Parkinson's disease (PD). The aim of the present review is to summarize the pharmacological neuroprotective actions of CA, and provide a comprehensive review of the molecular mechanism by which CA exert neuroprotective effect in PD. The current review highlights CA is a therapeutic potential for PD.
