Somatostatin-induced hyperglycemia in case of diabetes and pharmacology analysis

Abstract

Abstract: One patient of type 2 diabetes and intractable diarrhea was treated with somatostatin.Her glycemic control was good usually,but her blood glucose level significantly was increased during treatment.Considering somatostatin effect on blood glucose levels by inhibiting insulin and glucagon,it is recommended to use somatostatin with caution in patients with type 2 diabetes who treated with insulin secretagogues or good blood glucose control and hypoglycemia.It is needed to strengthen the monitoring of blood glucose during treated with somatostatin.
