Research progress of vancomycin nephrotoxicity

Abstract

Abstract: Vancomycin is an essential antibiotic to treat serious gram-positive bacterial infections, which is also linked to some extent of nephrotoxicity. The contemporary guidelines all promote to shift the vancomycin trough level to ensure the clinical efficacy. However, there is much debate that the high trough regimen may influence the renal function of patients. This article reviews the research progress of vancomycin-associated nephrotoxicity and mainly describes the relationship between trough levels and nephrotoxicity.
