Abstract: AIM: To study the correlation between ABCG2 genetic polymorphism and the lipid-lowering effect of atorvastatin. METHODS: Ninety-one aged patients with hypercholesterolemia were enrolled. Atorvastatin (10 mg/d) was given for treatment during 8 weeks. All patients'serum level of TC, TG, LDL-C and HDL-C before and after the 8 weeks' treatment was tested. Pyrosequencing was technique was adopted to analyze ABCG2 gene of the patients. RESULTS: Atorvastatin may significantly decrease the plasma levels of LDL-C in different polymorphisms (P<0.01). And the plasma levels of LDL-C in CA and AA genotype patients decline than CC genotype patients (P<0.05). Atorvastatin may significantly reduce the TC and TG plasma levels in patients with CA and AA genotype patients (P<0.05). CONCLUSION: ABCG2 genetic polymorphism may influence atorvastatin treatment.
