Abstract: AIM: To evaluate the effect of therapy of “kidney tonification and blood activation” on patients with chronic aplastic anemia (CAA).METHODS: 60 CAA patients were randomly assigned to treatment group and control group, with the former given traditional Chinese medicine for tonifying kidney and activating blood and the latter given CAA hematogenetic tablets. The levels of IL-2 and IL-8 were compared with those before and after the treatments and another 18 cases as normal group.RESULTS: Patients from treatment group and control group were cured with remission rate 66.67 % and 40.00 %, respectively.Treatment group was superior to control group in effectiveness(P <0.05).The positive indexes of IL-2 and IL-8 before treatment were both higher than those of normal group (P <0.05), while after treatment they decreased (P <0.05).CONCLUSION: The therapy for tonifying kidney and activating blood can reduce the secretion of IL-2 and IL-8 in CAA patients, and promote the restoration of hematogenetic function.
