Abstract: Retinol-binding potein ( RBP) is the primary transport protein for retionl. Serum plasma levels of RBP can serve as an index for detecting the development and the curative effects of the diseases of kindey and liver, as well as nutnitional diseases. Recent research reported that retinol binding protein 4(RBP4) is a newly discovered messenger fiom adipocyte, which plays a role in insulin resistance and obesity. The research and findings of the structure, gene polymorphism of RBP4, and association of RBP4 with type 2 diabetes ( T2DM) was reviewed in this article.

Key words: retinol binding protein 4, single nucleotide polymorphism, type 2 diabetes
