Abstract: AIM: To investigate the effects of Mycobacterium Phlei combined with benzathine penicillin in the treatment of early syphilis.METHODS: Eighty cases of early syphilis were divided into treatment group (Mycobacterium phlei combined with Benzathine penicillin) and control group (benzathine penicillin alone), all the patients were observed for 6 months.RESULTS: The geometric mean titers of rapid plasma reagin test (RPR) in the treatment group at the 3th and 6th months were lower than those in the control group (P<0.05). The RPR negative conversion rate was 40% after 6 months in treatment group, while 21.2% in the control group, the difference was significant (P<0.05).CONCLUSION: Mycobacterium Phlei can enhance the efficacy of benzathine penicillin in the treatment of early syphilis.
