Abstract: As a new glycylcycline antimicrobial agent, tigecycline (TIG) has been proved an effective therapeutic agent for the treatment of adult complicated intra-abdominal infections and complicated skin and skin structure infections. However, increasing evidence of drug resistance has been reported following the clinical treatment with TIG. This article offers an update overview of TIG pharmacological investigations, clinical applications, current microbial resistance and relative mechanisms.
