Abstract: AIM: To compare the efficacy between a once-daily controlled-release formulation of glipizide ( CRFG) and immediate-release glipizide ( IRG) in patients with type Ⅱ diabetes mellitus. METHODS: 80 patients with type Ⅱ diabetes mellitus were divided into the CRFG group and the IRG group to observe the levels of blood glucose and insulin after the treatments. RESULTS: CRFG given qd and IRG given bid or tid showed a similar effect, but the levels of fasting and post prandial insulin in latter was higher than that in the former. CONCLUSION: The controlled-release formulation of glipizide can effectively control blood glucose without hyperinsulinemia in patients with type Ⅱ diabetes mellitus.
