Abstract: Chromatin modifying protein 1A (Chmp1A) is a member of the Endosomal Sorting Complex Required for Transport (ESCRT-III) family that was shown to function in endosome-mediated trafficking via multivesicular body (MVB) formation and sorting. The expression of Chmp1A is markedly decreased in many tumors. Loss of Chmp1A expression in normal cells results in tumors formation in vivo. Chmp1A is mainly located in cytoplasmic and nuclear matrix, and participates in mitotic chromosome condensation, cell-cycle progression, and vesicle trafficking. Recent studies suggest that Chmp1A is a candidate PcG protein. Chmp1A is a novel tumor suppressor gene, which inactivation is related to the initiation and progression of several tumors.
