Abstract: AIM: To investigate the effect of artemisinin(ART) on the lipid peroxidation damage of cecal ligation and puncture (CLP) rat's liver.METHODS: Septic model was established by CLPin female Wistar rats.Artemisinin was administered and specimen such as blood and hepatic tissue were collected to examine serum lipopolysaccharide(LPS) , and contents of superoxide dismutase(SOD) , malondialdehyde (MDA) , TNF-αand IL-6 in hepatic homogenated tissue after 2, 4, 6, 12,24, 48 and 72 h by kinetic turbidimetric limulus test, colorimetric method and ELISA.RESULTS: The treatment of ART significantly reduced the peak plasma concentrations of LPS, the contents of MDA, TNF-αand IL-6 in hepatic tissue of the CLPrats. The level of SOD is significant higher.CONCLUSION: ART can reduce the lipid peroxidation damage developed in CLPrat's liver and thereby attenuate the imflammation damage.
