Abstract: Pulmonary function is not only the most important determinant of the life of premature infants, but also an important factor affecting their long-term prognosis. The microbial communities in the lungs and intestines are complex, and play an important role in the regulation of pulmonary diseases through the intestinal-pulmonary axis. This review summarizes the aspects of the midgut-lung axis and its pathophysiology in respiratory diseases characterized by bronchopulmonary dysplasia of premature infants, and explores the existing and innovative approaches to prevention and treatment.
