Current progress on functions and heterogeneity of endothelial cells

Abstract

Abstract: Endothelial cells (ECs) play various roles in a number of physiological and pathological processes. Based mainly on data available within the last decade, this review described the functions of ECs, including angiogenesis, coagulation, inflammation and immune re-sponse, synthesis of stromal components, vascular tone regulation, and lipid metabolism. The heterogeneity of the functions is also described.
