Abstract: Diabetic vascular complications are the major causes of death and disability in patients with diabetes, its pathogenesis is not yet fully elucidated. Currently a large number of researches show that advanced glycation end products (AGEs) and its receptor RAGE play an important role in the occurrence and development of diabetic vascular complications, which suggests that the AGE-RAGE system will be a novel therapeutic target for preventing diabetic vascular complications. In this study, we reviewed the signal transduction mechanisms and the role of the AGEs-RAGE system in diabetic vascular complications, and also discussed the current situation and the development trend of traditional Chinese medicine intervention on AGE-RAGE system.
